FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE CONSTRUCTION SITE – CEM COHORT 70 TAKES ITS FIRST STEP INTO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE THROUGH A SITE VISIT TO THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT OF HUCE'S HA NAM CAMPUS

As part of the Introduction to the Discipline course, on Friday, 16 January 2026, nearly 800 students from Cohort 70 of the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management participated in a meaningful site visit and field-based learning activity at the construction project of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering's Ha Nam Campus. The project is located within the Nam Cao University Complex in Ha Nam Province (now part of Ninh Binh Province).

This significant project is being developed by the Management Board of the Nam Cao University Complex and Ninh Binh High-Tech Park as the Project Owner, with the Ha Nam Construction Investment Project Management Board serving as the project management authority. With a total investment of approximately VND 1.1 trillion, the project represents a major strategic investment in higher education infrastructure. Once completed, it is expected to strengthen educational facilities and contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce for both the region and the nation.

Through this field visit, Cohort 70 CEM students—although still in the early years of their university studies—had the valuable opportunity to step onto an active construction site, observe the realities of project execution, and gain first-hand insights from site engineers and technical professionals. During the visit, they were introduced to key aspects of construction practice, including:

• Construction site layout and organisation
• Project management
• Quality and schedule management
• Occupational health and safety on construction sites

The practical knowledge and on-site experience gained during the visit provided students with a clearer understanding of the professional activities associated with Construction Economics, Construction Management, and Project Management. More importantly, the experience enabled them to begin visualising the career paths they have chosen and will continue to pursue in the future.

Beyond observing construction activities, the field visit also provided first-year CEM students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals. Through open discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions, students gained deeper insights into the roles and responsibilities of construction professionals, the competencies required by the industry, and the diverse career opportunities available after graduation.

The field visit to the construction project in Ha Nam was far more than an off-campus learning activity. It marked an important first step in helping Cohort 70 students bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice, laying a solid foundation for the development of their professional mindset and inspiring a lasting passion for their chosen discipline from the very beginning of their university journey. The activity also reflects the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management's strong commitment to providing a practice-oriented education while supporting the holistic development, career orientation, and professional growth of its students.
