CDSD 2023 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS - TRANSFORMATION THROUGH CREATIVE INNOVATION

On March 20 and 21, 2023, the CDSD 2023 Conference, themed “Construction Digitalisation for Sustainable Development: Transforming through Innovation”, took place at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE). The conference was organized with sponsorship from the British Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), Vingroup Innovation Foundation (VinIF) (Vietnam), Glodon Vietnam Company, and Lam Pham Construction Company Limited (Vietnam).

Continuing the success of the first CDSD 2020 Conference, the second CDSD Conference, held in March 2023, was part of a series of events marking the 60th anniversary of education (1963-2023) and the 55th anniversary of the founding (1968-2023) of the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management. The conference was organized in conjunction with events under the project "Innovation and Disruptive Technology: SME Innovation through Disruptive Technology and Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing)", implemented since July 2019 (BC HEP 2019 Project) with the project leader being Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK, and funded by the British Council (on the HUCE side, the Institute of Construction Investment Management was assigned to implement this Project).

On the international side, the Conference saw the participation of scientists and experts from Manchester Metropolitan University – UK, National Taiwan University, University of Malaya - Malaysia, National University of Laos, among others. From HUCE, the attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang – Vice Rector, Dr. Nguyen Lien Huong – Head of the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Quan – Director of the Institute of Construction Investment Management. The Conference attracted significant interest from scientists, lecturers, and students both inside and outside the University. Additionally, the Conference was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Construction, professional organizations and associations, relevant businesses, and media agencies.

The promotion of digital technology application in the construction sector is receiving great attention from the Government, through a series of decisions related to BIM application, one of the most prominent digital technology solutions for construction investment projects issued in recent years. On March 17, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 258/QD – TTg approving the roadmap for mandatory application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in construction activities – starting from 2023, BIM must be mandatorily applied to special-grade and Grade I projects of new construction investments using state capital; by 2025, BIM will be mandatory for projects of Grade II and above for new construction investments using state budget funds.
