1. Introduction to the Program

Construction Economics is a field that combines economics and construction management, involving specific tasks such as finance, accounting, statistics; preparation and appraisal of construction investment projects; cost estimation, verification, and final settlement of construction works; pricing and cost management.
Construction Economics is a traditional major with over 50 years of training experience under the Faculty of Construction Economics and Management. It is one of the most popular and highly sought-after majors among applicants to the National University of Civil Engineering (NUCE).

Training Objectives:
The program aims to train Construction Economics Engineers who possess good moral qualities, solid scientific knowledge in the fields of economics and urban management, as well as professional skills and practical competence. Graduates are expected to be capable of handling and solving professional problems independently and creatively; proficient in information collection, processing, and communication; and equipped with essential social and teamwork skills to work effectively in multi-disciplinary and international environments. They will also be able to apply information technology and foreign languages in their professional activities.

The Construction Economics program is suitable for students who are interested in both engineering and management sciences. The combination of technical, construction technology, and economic management knowledge makes this major unique compared to other engineering fields. Logical reasoning, analytical and synthetic thinking, communication skills, and a passion for learning about economic and social issues are advantageous traits for pursuing this field.

4. Knowledge and Skills Upon Graduation

Graduates in Construction Economics can:

– Work as construction managers in government agencies overseeing construction investment, from central levels (such as the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, State Treasury, Development Bank, and other ministries) to local levels (provincial, district departments such as Departments of Construction, Architecture and Planning, Transport, Planning and Investment, Finance, Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as construction and finance divisions of districts).

– Conduct research at institutes specializing in construction economics and management.

– Work as enterprise managers, bidding specialists, and site managers at construction companies or real estate investment and business enterprises.

– Provide consulting services in project preparation and analysis, cost estimation, verification, and bidding consultancy at construction investment consulting firms.

– Work as project appraisers at commercial banks and insurance companies.

– Work as project managers in project management units or for construction investors.

– Teach and conduct training at educational institutions.


5. Scholarships and Academic Support

In addition to the university’s regular merit-based scholarships, students also have opportunities to receive faculty scholarships for those with good academic results and difficult circumstances, including:

  • VietinBank Scholarship: 3,000,000 VND per award

  • FLC Scholarship

  • Le Mong Dao Scholarship: 5,000,000 VND per award

  • Do Quoc Sam Scholarship: 5,000,000 VND per award

  • CSC Scholarship: USD 5,000 for the top student and 12 awards of 5,000,000 VND each

  • Along with other scholarships sponsored by various enterprises.


6. Career Opportunities

According to departmental statistics, over 95% of Construction Economics graduates from NUCE find employment within the first six months after graduation. More than 80% work in positions related to their field of study, with an average monthly income of 10 million VND. Around 11% of graduates earn between 10–15 million VND/month.

Furthermore, according to Lao Dong Newspaper, Construction Economics ranks among the Top 10 most attractive majors, with the average income of graduates after five years reaching 35 million VND/month.
